The objective of the course is to improve students' knowledge of the language, their competences and language skills with emphasis on business. Students will acquire knowledge necessary for understanding business texts, communicating in real-life business situations and writing short texts.
On completion of the course students will have acquired the following course-specific skills and competences: they will have acquired both general and business vocabulary; they will become aware of the variety of language tools and they will be able to apply the knowledge in general and business context; they will have deepened the knowledge of all the levels of language structure (phonetics, morphology, syntax and semantics); they will have developed all the four language skills (reading, listening, writing and speaking), sociolinguistic and strategic competences and will have improved the ability to use dictionaries – both in written and electronic forms; having covered various business-related topics both in the language course and other courses students will have a good knowledge of business and economic terms.
• Grammar: personal pronouns, present tense, interrogative words (W-Fragen) and the indefinite and definite articles; modal verbs in the present tense, imperative, personal pronouns, time adverbials, preterit (sein, haben); polite speech (würde, könnte), comparison of adjectives.
• Topics:Meeting peoplein different real situations; numbers and time; activities during the day, situations in the restaurant (with business partners); tour companies and the relationship with business partners, (business) trips and their organization (booking tickets, accommodation, buying clothes), getting around in a new city, phone conversations, business meeting cancellations.
• The vocabulary from the register "General" and the LSP in relation to simple situations in the business world, written and oral communication (phone call, e-mail and fax, forms).
• Interpreting data from timetables, road maps, company organogram, ads and manufacturers' offers.
• Practicing the grammatical structure of the German language through speech situations and the adoption of a particular vocabulary. The development of all language activities (reading, writing, speaking, writing and text comprehension );
• Simulation of talks on personal and professional experience topics (working in pairs or groups).
• Presentation of a company, its activities and organizations.
• Interpreting data from timetables, road maps,organograms, ads and offers and writing short e-mails and faxes, filling in a form.
